I’ve not had great luck with broken limbs in the ER. I try to get directly to my orthopedic/sports medicine group because that is where I will get care and ongoing follow up anyway. Sadly, I have a long standing relationship with one because I have and ride horses.

I save ER for heart, breathing, consciousness issues.

A lot of hospitals have walk-in orthopedic hours to try to decompress the emergency department as there have been so many issues with overcrowding. If it’s something that will be a cast last without a lot of immediate manipulation, your strategy is excellent! Horseback riding definitely gives you plenty of joy and sometimes reasons to have longstanding relationships with the orthopedists.
